Oars in the Air

The oars rise up

Dripping back into the sea

The sea swells up its salt belly

The wind whips through your hair

The cliffs move over slow move

Dancing in the air

The land is far away from us

Shoals of fish follow

The gulls are hunting well today

Wide their wings against the blue light

Our oars again rise up

The sinews in my arms are pounding

My back bending to and fro

My thighs grow stronger

I drive my feet against the floor

I force the whole power of myself

Into the soft wetness

I twist and spin

I am at the beginning

My neck I make into an arch

Down my spine my cords loosen

The oars rise up, then plunge deep in

Rise up deep in,

You keep to grip

I turn my hip into the wild of the wind

My hands let go my fingers stiff

Like fish the foam spurts

The tail flicks the gills flesh out

The boat rises one last time

We float back somewhere into shore

The oars lie quietly side by side.
